Les Paul Traditional 1960

Thanks to Eric Clapton's juicy tone and scorching licks on the "Beano album" with John Mayall and the Blues Breakers, the Gibson Les Paul made a stunning comeback in the mid and late '60s. Les Paul aces such as Mike Bloomfield, Jimmy Page, Paul Kossoff, Jeff Beck and several others followed Clapton's lead, and the single-cutaway tone monster's place in rock history was assured for all time. To celebrate the great Les Paul Standards of the model's "comeback years", Sam Ash presents the Gibson USA Les Paul Traditional 1960, a guitar with the look, specs, and tone of the instruments that laid the very foundations of rock. Available in two great hand-sprayed nitrocellulose finishes—Tea Burst and Ebony Black—it's a guitar that brings the great Les Paul roaring forward to the 21st century.

The Les Paul Traditional 1960 is crafted with all the classic ingredients that helped to make this model a legend. A carved maple top (Grade-A on the translucent Tea Burst models) contributes clarity and sustain, while a mahogany body adds depth and richness, and is subtly chambered to enhance resonance and reduce weight. A solid one-piece mahogany neck is glued in with a traditional mortis & tenon joint, and carved in the popular SlimTaper™ profile that first helped to make Les Pauls the fastest players on earth back in 1960. Topped with a Grade-A rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets, with a 12" radius for each choke-free bending, the neck culminates in a headstock with the preferred 17-degree backward pitch for improved string pressure in the PLEK-cut Corian nut.

To launch all of this tonal goodness into the stratosphere, the Sam Ash Les Paul Traditional 1960 carries two of Gibson USA's most popular humbucking pickups, a 57 Classic in the neck position for sweet, warm vocal tones, and a slightly hotter 57 Classic Plus in the bridge for gutsy crunch and soaring lead tones. These acclaimed units are made with genuine Alnico V magnets and wound with 42 AWG wire, just like the legendary PAFs of the early '60s, and offer a blend of depth and clarity that few pickups can match today. They are installed uncovered, to mirror a popular modification of the 1960s believed to enhance high-end response.

A Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece ensure a solid anchor and optimum sustain, while a set of vintage-look Kluson-style tuners with pearloid buttons take the traditional look right over the top. Further classic appointments include acrylic trapezoid fingerboard inlays, a mother-of-pearl Gibson headstock logo and silkscreened gold "Les Paul Model," cream binding and pickguard, featuring a gold-stamped 1960 logo, and gold Top-Hat knobs with silver pointers. For looks, tone, and feel, the Sam Ash Gibson USA Les Paul Traditional 1960 brings the '60s five decades forward to today in a package that any guitarist can make their own. Each guitar comes protected in a plush-lined hardshell case with black exterior, and includes owner's manual and adjustment literature, along with Gibson's Limited Lifetime Warranty and 24/7/365 customer service.
